The Volvo lineup of plug-in hybrid Recharge models will now offer more power, add more features, and a larger battery translating into a significant improvement in range.
Announced earlier this month, the arrival of the improved Recharge T8 all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid powertrain and improved battery means a significant jump in range for every Volvo Recharge model. The battery jumps from 11.6 kWh to 18.8 kWh which improves all-electric range to between 58 and 64 km depending on the model. That represents between 73% and 100% more range compared to previous Recharge models.
The improve range means that buyers should be able to complete most of their daily commute and driving without needing a single drop of fuel. As you can see below, the all-electric driving capability of new 2022 Volvo Recharge models is significant.

ˆWhen driven in Pure Mode
The improved range is not the only thing that is improved on Volvo Recharge models. The rear electric motor now delivers 143 horsepower compared to 87 horsepower. That means that Volvo Recharge models now offer 455 horsepower, an increase of 55 compared to outgoing models. That makes the Volvo Recharge models the most powerful ever created by the brand.
This improved capability means that Recharge owners will now be able to pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin remotely via the Volvo Cars app while maintaining all-electric driving range. The new and improved e-motor improves all-wheel drive capability as well.
New Volvo Recharge models now offer the ability to drive using only one pedal, a feature normally found in pure electric vehicles. One-pedal driving allows the user to control accelerations and decelerations using only the accelerator.
“Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles play an important role in the shift to electrification,” said Matt Girgis, managing director, Volvo Car Canada. “These upgraded powertrains will demonstrate the many benefits of an electric future and will serve as an enabling technology that will encourage more consumers to adopt the electric lifestyle.”
