Volvo's infotainment system has just received a significant upgrade in its latest over-the-air update. The improvements have been rolled out globally to Volvo vehicles equipped with Google built-in systems, particularly enhancing the experience for Apple CarPlay users.
The most notable feature of the update is the integration of Apple Maps and other compatible navigation apps into the driver display, situated just behind the steering wheel. Coupled with the ability to manage calls - answer, reject, and end - using the steering wheel buttons, drivers can now enjoy a more interactive and safer drive. The centre display also provides more media information and enables direct call management, including hang-up or mute features.
Alwin Bakkenes, Volvo's Head of Software Engineering, emphasized their goal to continually improve user experience through these updates. This approach has allowed Volvo to solidify its place as a frontrunner in delivering remote software updates, surpassing a million deliveries with the previous update. The current update is set to reach an unprecedented 650,000 Volvo vehicles worldwide.
The update also ushers in enhancements to improve the overall driving experience. Drivers can now manage support functions via the steering wheel buttons, customize wing mirror movements during locking, and experience minor engine calibrations. Additionally, various bug fixes are included, ensuring optimal performance for all Volvo drivers.
