Volvo Cars Leverages Tesla’s Supercharger Network for Expansive Charging Access

In a trailblazing move towards its 2030 all-electric transition goal, Volvo Cars has inked an unprecedented agreement with Tesla. This collaboration grants Volvo drivers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico the ability to use Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network, adding 12,000 new fast-charge points to their existing charging options. This milestone increases the total charging points available to Volvo owners, mitigating a significant hurdle to widespread EV adoption.

Starting from 2025, upcoming Volvo models will incorporate the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port, aligning with the Supercharger compatibility. This integration will further enhance the convenience for Volvo drivers seeking easy access to charging infrastructure.

Moreover, owners of Volvo’s present fully electric vehicles, such as the XC40, C40 Recharge, EX30, and EX90, are expected to leverage the Supercharger network using an adapter by mid-2024. Drivers wishing to utilize the Combined Charging System (CCS) with their NACS-equipped Volvo vehicles will be catered for with an adapter from Volvo.

For seamless charging station navigation, availability status, and payment processing, Volvo's app will be an invaluable tool for fully electric Volvo owners in the United States and Canada. CEO Jim Rowan emphasizes that this partnership signals a significant stride in making electric driving and sustainable transportation more accessible for Volvo owners in North America.
